Description
The fake Belgian SIGNAL This was a version produced by the Belgian Resistance in 1944. It was due to be distributed on 10 May 1944 to mark the fourth anniversary of the invasion of Belgium, but the publication of the fake Belgian SIGNAL was delayed by a few weeks. One of the architects of this operation, Ernest Marchal, was in fact nicknamed ‘SIGNAL’ within the Belgian Resistance; he was a liaison officer for the Athos group. The fake Belgian SIGNAL is not strictly speaking a copy of the magazine; it takes the form of a four-page colour leaflet accompanied by an explanatory leaflet. Originally, the plan was to publish a proper illustrated magazine featuring confidential photographs of the damage caused by the attacks against Leon Degrelle’s Rexists, as well as the amount of compensation paid to the victims.
